Travel Information (Updated January 2009) The Airporter Shuttle runs between SeaTac Airport (SEA) and Bellingham Airport (BLI). The cost is $60 round trip and travel time from SEA to BLI is 3 1/2 hours. In Bellingham the Airporter stops at both the airport and the Value Inn. Both of these stops are about equal distance from SJS/SJY (5-10 minutes by taxi), in opposite directions. You may reach the Airporter for reservations at 1-866-235-5247 or www.airporter.com. Including all airport fees and taxes an Avis car rental (one day, one way, no drop off fee) from SEA to BLI is approximately $90 and from BLI to SEA is approximately $80, for a total of $170 round trip. The drive will take 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, depending on traffic (exactly 100 miles from SEA to BLI). You may reach Avis at 1-800-331-1212. Therefore: 1. For a party of 3 or more, renting a car is less expensive than taking the shuttle. 2. For a party of 2, renting a car is about $50 more than taking the shuttle, but there are some advantages: a) You will arrive at San Juan Sailing/San Juan Yachting about an hour earlier... maybe more if you have to wait for the next Airporter Shuttle departure. b) You will have a vehicle for trips to the grocery and liquor stores, going out for dinner, sightseeing in Fairhaven, etc.c.
Note: Beginning in late 2009 light rail service will connect SeaTac (Seattle/Tacoma) International Airport with downtown Seattle. This will allow an easy transfer between SeaTac airport and the downtown Seattle Amtrak station (adjacent to the light rail station). Amtrak offers several trains daily between Bellingham and downtown Seattle. Visit www.amtrak.com for train schedules. Click here for progress updates on the light rail link.
Travel regulations regarding CO2 cartridges for inflatable life vests:
As of May 2009
CO2 cartridges as part of an inflatable life vest are permitted (with up to
2 spares). However, for the most
current regulations on air-travel with CO2 cartridges, visit the TSA website
and check with your airline. These regulations are subject to frequent
change, so we highly recommend that you check again just prior to your
flight. You may also wish to print off the TSA page detailing CO2
regulations to bring with you to the airport.
