Basic Sailing (ASA 101) Live-Aboard Weekend Class (9AM Saturday, overnight to 5PM Sunday) Learn the fundamentals of sailing a 30 to 40 foot sailboat. All instruction takes place on the boat. With only four students per class everyone receives a lot of time at the helm and hands-on sailing. Learn sailing terminology, what makes a sailboat go, points of sail, basic knots, boating safety, "rules of the road" on the water, and docking. And, experience the cruising life while staying aboard your boat at an anchorage in the San Juan Islands! There will be both a written and a skills test to complete the course. Thorough study of your "Sailing Fundamentals" text will prepare you for your course and greatly enhance your learning experience. The Basic Sailing curriculum (link below) is helpful to follow while reviewing the text and will streamline your studying.
Please bring sleeping bag, pillow case (pillow provided) and food for the overnight weekend. A full galley, including stove, refrigerator and barbecue, is available for your use onboard. NOTE: This is a Non-Smoking course. (Basic Sailing Curriculum) (Packing List) (Class Preparation Checklist) (Student Survey)
