Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103) Live-Aboard Weekend Class (9AM Saturday, overnight to 5PM Sunday) This overnight course builds on your basic knowledge and includes an overnight anchorage in the San Juan Islands! In addition to anchoring, the course introduces navigation, reefing, sailing a plotted course, choosing proper sail configuration, and "heaving to". Your goal is to safely sail, both as skipper and crew, on a 30 to 40 foot sailboat in moderate wind and sea conditions. With a maximum of only 4 students, everyone receives plenty of helm time and hands-on sailing. There will be both a written and a skills test to complete the course. Thorough study of your "Sailing Fundamentals" text will prepare you for your course and greatly enhance your learning experience. The Basic Coastal Cruising (BCC) curriculum (link below) will be helpful to follow while reviewing the text and will streamline your studying.
**Please bring sleeping bag, pillow case (pillow provided) and food for the weekend. A full galley, including refrigerator, stove, and barbeque, is available for your use onboard. If you would like to preboard on Friday, there is an additional $10 fee. Please let us know at least 2 weeks in advance so we have the boat ready for you! NOTE: This is a non-smoking course.
