Fall
Option: Desolation Sound Advanced Coastal Learn-N-Cruise (One or Two Weeks)
A one-way Advanced Learn-N-Cruise
opportunity allowing you to discover Desolation Sound and explore further, while offering more variation than the standard round-trip advanced class does. The
goal of this week-long cruise is to achieve the ASA Advanced Coastal Cruising
standard by skippering a 30’ to 45’ sailboat at night as well as during the
daytime, in all weather conditions suitable for sailing.
This offshore preparatory class is
intense, challenging and rewarding! Some of the topics you will cover on this
cruise include: watch systems and rotations, use of radar and chart plotters,
weather analysis, handling of emergency situations, night navigation and
piloting, spinnaker rigging and use, advanced anchoring techniques, performance
tuning, and reefing and heavy weather sailing.
If you are planning to take this
advanced course but would like to extend your time onboard, we are offering
cabin rentals for the week of September 24 - 30, 2011. During this week
the boat will be exploring the islands of Desolation Sound along with the
rest of the San Juan Sailing Fall Flotilla. The cabins are reserved on a
first-come, first-serve basis. This week will provide you with extra experience
in cruising/cruise planning in a beautiful and fairly remote cruising ground.
This cruising week is “by the stateroom”. $1,400 per stateroom, so bring along a
second person for no additional cost! A $250 flotilla fee will be split by all
on board for the cruising week.
Tuition: $1,495 plus ASA certs
($20 each), texts ($66 for ASA 105 and $45 for ASA 106).
Budget for one meal
ashore per week. All other meals, moorage and fuel are included.
